The cause of the American Revolution started with the French and Indian war (seven year war). Witch left the British with a huge debt. So, the British decided to pass the sugar act, next the stamp act, then the Intolerable act to get more money from the colonists and pay off this debt.
To punish the colonies for the Boston tea party the Intolerable acts was put into place. Which are four harsh laws. One law is the closing of the Boston port until they pay for the tea, the next is that they could not have a town meeting without agreement from the government, another is that the officials that committed capital crimes are tried in Great Britain, and finally the Quartering acts were passed. In 1774, a continental congress was put together to protest the Intolerable acts. The congress agreed to boycott and stops all trade with Great Britain.
In 1775, British solders tried to seize gunpowder from the colonists and capture the colonial generals. However, by the rid of Paul Revere, the colonists were warned. The British soldiers were meet by colonial Militian as they arrived in Lexington, Massachusetts. "The shot heard round the world" was fired and the Revolutionary War had begun.
